This is a well known failing of that tutorial, CCP have been told about it many, many times and it's been petitioned over and over and over again, but still they do nothing about it.
The mission apparently dates from the time that every new player received a rookie ship equipped with civilian weapon and mining modules and wasn't changed when the pilot's licence training course was altered to provide only an empty rookie ship hull. The advice that you can do the tutorials in any order is totally untrue and misleading.
It's not exactly a bug, just incompetent game development, but by all means add your voice to the protest by filing a report. |

Mara Rinn wrote:Do you have the "Missions" display in the top left corner, under the star system name? The drop-down menu will give you an option to "warp to" at which point you'll find the place that you're supposed to mine the ore. OP obviously knew that bit. What he's saying is that he had nothing to mine with.
Tau Cabalander wrote: If it had been me, I would have thought where I last found a mining laser... like on the rookie ship you are first given (repackage your rookie ship for as many civilian mining lasers as you want), or for sale on the market.
There's no mining laser on a newbie's first ship. It's a bare rookie ship hull - no fittings of any sort.
Sylvester Slake wrote: Well you didn't "have" to do anything. You can get skillbooks in the market, and you should even have a civilian miner on your default ship, which would work to get the ore, as you dont need much, really only a couple cycles, even with the civi miner.. See above.
Lost Greybeard wrote:An ill-mannered tirade that made no attempt to answer the OP's question. Best to actually read what the OP says before replying and abide by the rules of this section.
Sylvester Slake wrote:your turning a little tiny detail into this huge game breaking deal. like wtf? People here have been more then helpful and all you can say is keep the rudeness to yourself? It isn't a "little tiny detail" when a new player is told that he can do the tutorials in any order only to discover that he doesn't have the equipment needed for the third mission in the first tutorial he attempts.
And at this point the only helpful comment was Xercodo's suggestion of running the industry tutorial and then returning.

Spathe Ne Boirelle wrote:I seriously don't know whats the fuss about the tutorial agents. I just completed the industry tutorial agents and the first time I talked to her she gave me a miner 1 upon accepting the mission. Then I fitted it to my newb ship and did the mission. I just continued doing missions for her. How is this relevant to the OP's query about the business tutorial?
Spathe Ne Boirelle wrote:I even got a velator with a turret and a civilian mining laser with it (yes they do come with it). Not necessarily - see above.
Spathe Ne Boirelle wrote:It's clear you just missed something. At best the agent tells you in bold letters what you need so you can get it from the market. Tutorial agents are meant to help you... not complete your job by the way. He missed nothing and it's quite clear he read and understood the agent's instructions.
Spathe Ne Boirelle wrote:Remember, a couple of years back... tutorials didn't exist. How is this relevant to the OP's query?

ShahFluffers wrote:I remember that mission. Quite clearly you don't, as the mission you describe isn't the one the OP refers to.
ShahFluffers wrote:It didn't take a genius to figure how "this mission says I need ore... hey, I have a mining laser on that first ship of mine... You may have had a mining laser on your first ship, but today's newbies don't.
ShahFluffers wrote:I remember that one being part of the industrial tutorial. Indeed, but the question is about the business tutorial . . .
Regardless... you should have still been able to connect the dots.
ShahFluffers wrote:- The first ship you get in the game comes with a mining laser (which is clearly labelled as such). Nope - see above.
ShahFluffers wrote:- The mission is asking you to mine. - Previous missions usually take you someplace. Maybe this one does? Undock and find out. What would be the point without a mining laser?

This thead is a classic example of how NOT to deal with a genuine query from a confused new player who is stuck because of misleading in-game information and a poorly structured tutotial. |

Marmaduke Hatplate wrote:I'm a new player too. I am currently doing the career path tutorials.
First IU did the entire tutorial questline given by Aura, steadily, following her instructions. Then I did Exploration, as it looked interesting. Probe scanning is awful, I discovered. Then I did Business until I had to wait whilst manufacturing something, started Indusrty until I had to wait to manufacture something, then I did Military, and now I'm halfway through advanced military, and continuing with business.
I did the mission in question without getting too confused. When I was given the mining ship, I too was like 'hm, no mining laser?', but a popup from aura said something like 'Look in your item hangar. If you haven't been given a mining laser by your agent, stop here and buy one from the market.' You're new, or at least your character is, and I'm sure you mean well, so I'll try to be gentle.
EVE is a complex game and you'll need a better memory than that evidenced here if you're to be successful.
For starters, if you've already done the business tutorial to the point where you have to wait while manufacturing something, you can't be "continuing" with it. The manufacturing mission is the last of the series, so once the job is done and delivered to the agent the tutorial is finished and there's nothing more to be "continuing" with.
Second, you would not have received any "look in your hangar" message from Aura for the simple reason that the agent isn't, and never was, intended to provide a mining laser at that point in the tutorial. That's the problem, as you would know if you'd taken the trouble to read my first post in this thread.
The most stupid thing of all is that the agent does give a Miner I in Mission 6 - three missions too late and when it's no longer necessary.
If you managed the mission with little trouble then either you were more clued up than the OP was when he did it or, as I suspect might be the case, the business and industry tutorials have become mixed up in your memory and you did a few industry missions before switching to business, not vice versa.

+1 for appropriate pun. <3 It would be appropriate if this thread was about the industry 'Making Mountains of Molehills' tutorial.
Unfortunately it isn't. |
